Amber Post is set to graduate in March 2018 with an associate degree in Medical Assisting. Her excitement to graduate and begin her career is visible every day at West Virginia Junior College Bridgeport. Amber went to Fairmont State University right after she graduated from high school, but ended up leaving because she felt overwhelmed and unprepared for such a big change in her life.
Amber was a stay at home mom of two boys before she made the decision to go back to school and finish her college education. She loved every minute of being home with her boys but wanted more for herself. “I wanted a better life for my kids and me and to be able to enjoy the career I’ve always wanted.” Amber chose WVJC because it is a small college that allows her to finish her degree in 18 months. Amber knew that starting a career in 18 months was better for her than spending 4 years getting a degree. She has always had the desire to be in the medical field, so WVJC’s Clinical Medical Assistant program was the right fit for her.
“I love attending WVJC because of all the teachers and staff. Everyone is friendly, encouraging, and supportive. It feels like a family.” Her favorite teacher is Mr. Cutright. “He is an excellent teacher and makes learning fun. Mr. Cutright is very knowledgeable, helpful, and supportive of my career.” Even though a perfect day for Amber is spending time with her family, she is looking forward to graduating and starting her career. Her ideal job after graduation is a phlebotomist in a hospital. Her five-year plan is to have a good career with benefits and a home for herself and her boys. Amber lives each day by a quote she loves, “The past is your lesson. The present is your engine. The future is your motivation.”
