Online Dental Assisting Program

WVJC Online dental assisting training is a best-of-both-worlds program where students experience the convenience of online classes combined with hands-on instruction during clinical days.

Online dental assisting students take classes such as dental terminology, dental science, dental practice management, and dental office procedures through WVJC’s user-friendly online platform. Thus, students have some flexibility in completing coursework while balancing family and work responsibilities.

The clinical skills that are critical to a successful dental assisting career are developed during clinical days conducted at a residential campus equipped with a functioning dental lab. Clinical days occur one day per lab class and are designed to enhance student learning outcomes through personalized interaction and engagement with qualified instructors.

WVJC Online dental assisting students’ educational journey consists of an integrated program composed of classroom instruction, student services, lab work, externships, and career services.

Graduates are employable in various dental environments, including general dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, and orthodontics.

Online dental assisting graduates are qualified to sit for the Nationally Registered Credentialed Dental Assistant (NRCDA) certification* exam.

*Certification contingent upon passing this industry certification exam.

Dental Assisting Externship and Certification

The WVJC Online dental assisting training is structured so students acquire the knowledge and develop the skills to contribute immediately to the operation of a dental work environment. Externships and certifications help advance those graduate outcomes.

Externships are an intermediate transitional step that allows students, under the watch of a supervisor, to gain practical experience applying their newly developed skills to a dental office caring for patients.

Certifications are standards of knowledge and abilities that validate the skills and increase the credibility of potential employees to employers.
