Mon Health – WVJC Partnership

Mon Health System and West Virginia Junior College have partnered to create the WVJC School of Nursing at Mon Health, serving the healthcare needs of North Central West Virginia. This collaboration brings together two of Morgantown’s trusted institutions to provide a high level of care for area residents.

Mon Health System exists as an integrated network of hospitals, physician clinics, and outpatient centers. It includes six hospitals – Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown; Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood; Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston; Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital in White Hall; affiliate, Grafton City Hospital in Grafton; and Highland-Clarksburg Hospital in Clarksburg.

West Virginia Junior College Morgantown is one of three WVJC residential campuses located in West Virginia, with the other two in Bridgeport and Charleston. The colleges offer Associate Degrees in Nursing, Allied Health, Business, and Information Technology. In 2013, WVJC began offering education training through an online platform.

“I used to struggle within a classroom environment, but the instructors here have been very accommodating and supportive.– David Miller, WVJC Student

Direct Admission Mon Health Scholars Program

WVJC School of Nursing at Mon Health employs a direct admission option so incoming students can immediately start in the nursing program when offered and will not be required to take pre-nursing classes.

The Mon Health Scholars Program provides WVJC School of Nursing students with financial resources for tuition, books, and academic fees. Nursing students will complete their didactic coursework through WVJC’s online platform and satisfy most of their lab and clinical rotations within the Mon Health network.

The online component of the WVJC School of Nursing at Mon Health offers students some flexibility and convenience so they can balance life and college simultaneously. This online program also creates opportunities through the regional Mon Health System to accept students who reside near their facilities.

Graduates will be conferred an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCELX-RN)* and are prepared to begin employment through the Mon Health network or other healthcare facilities.

*Passing the NCLEX – RN exam is required to become a Registered Nurse.

“I feel comfortable placing my time and energy into WVJC knowing I’m going to receive it back tenfold.”

– De’Seana Cole-Flowers, WVJC Student

Mon Health Clinical Experience

Nursing students accepted into the West Virginia Junior College School of Nursing at Mon Health benefit from satisfying their clinical rotation and preceptorship at Mon Health. Exposure to the organization’s culture as student nurses should accelerate the onboarding process upon graduation.

Student nurses may have the opportunity to participate in lab training at the Ron and Stephanie Stovash Mobile Nursing Lab (MNL).

The MNL is an RV configured and outfitted with two fully equipped patient care rooms containing adult, obstetrics, and pediatrics high-fidelity simulations, a control room with two controller stations, advanced technology for recording and reviewing student practice, internal cellular internet capabilities, and an extension TV for the participants outside of the MNL.

The MNL will provide nursing students with an additional way to complete the necessary lab requirements for the program.

RN to BSN through WVJC Online

WVJC Online is excited to offer a 12-month online RN to BSN program through the WVJC School of Nursing, allowing students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Upon passing the NCLEX-RN exam, RNs can begin their nursing careers while simultaneously earning their BSN. This program is designed for registered nurses (RNs) with an associate degree in nursing (ADN) who want to advance their careers.

WVJC ADN graduates auto-qualify for the BSN Pathway Scholarship* upon being accepted into the program. Students who graduate from WVJC with their ADN and immediately continue to the RN to BSN program could have their BSN in less than three years! This can give students a head start in their careers, save time and money, and allow them to advance their education.
