Embarking on the journey to a career in nursing is an exciting path filled with opportunities for personal and professional growth. However, before donning the scrubs and stethoscopes, future nurses must first navigate the nursing admissions process. This process initially seem daunting, but WVJC is here to help you prepare for this next step. 
Keep reading as we provide a step-by-step breakdown of the WVJC School of Nursing admissions process!
Step One: Choose A Program
The WVJC School of Nursing is a great option for students who need to balance family, work, and nursing school. Potential student nurses can choose between campus-based, online/hybrid, and online* nursing programs based on their location and preferred learning style.
Step Two: Schedule A Campus Visit
Once deciding what program fits your needs, you will work closely with a WVJC School of Nursing admissions team member throughout the admissions process. They will schedule a virtual meeting or campus visit to provide more information on the institution, program requirements, your goals, and more.
Step Three: Prepare For The TEAS Exam
The WVJC School of Nursing requires potential nursing students to have specific scores on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) for admission to the program. Many resources available, including the WVJC Online TEAS Prep course, can help you prepare for this exam.
Step Four: Complete The Nursing Application
As you prepare for the TEAS exam, it is recommended that you also begin gathering the necessary documents to complete your nursing application. You will need to remit an application fee, provide multiple essays, letters of recommendation, transcripts from high school and any post-secondary institutions you have attended, and other documents requested by your admissions team member.
Step Five: Interview With The Nursing Program Director
Once you have successfully passed the TEAS exam and have completed the nursing application, you will meet with the Nursing Program Director for an interview. Think of this as a job interview. Be prepared, confident, and dressed appropriately, even if the interview is conducted virtually. The Program Director will discuss your goals and help determine if the program is right for you.
Step Six: Meet With A Financial Aid Team Member
Once you have been accepted into the nursing program, you will then meet with a WVJC nursing financial aid team member to discuss your financial aid eligibility and walk through the process of funding your education. They will provide you with resources such as scholarships~, financial aid^, student loans, and more.
Step Seven: Complete Health Screenings, Immunizations, and Clearances
As a student entering the healthcare field, you may be required to complete health screenings such as a drug and physical tests, and possess specific immunizations. Your admissions team member will discuss further requirements with you if necessary.
Step Eight: Attend Orientation Course and Begin Nursing School
Once admitted to a WVJC School of Nursing program, you will complete a New Student Orientation course that details what to expect in the program, more information about the institution, and more. After that, you will begin taking courses directly related to your nursing education.
It is crucial to recognize that WVJC Nursing programs are completed at an accelerated pace, allowing the program to be completed in 18 months. Because of the rigorous nature of the program, students are expected to be fully committed to their education.
