West Virginia Junior College, Morgantown Campus, kicked off what will become a bi-annual tradition Thursday, July 25, as alumni, students, faculty and staff gathered for the first “Meet & Mingle” networking event.
The event, which was hosted by the school, was held at the Hilton Garden Inn, in Morgantown, where attendees enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and conversation. Alumni received a WVJC Alumni shirt.
Those who attended were entered into a raffle for a $20 gift card to Sheetz.
Alumni who graduated in the last three years received a postcard invitation to the event. It was also publicized on Facebook.
Soon-to-be graduates Kelly Miller and Bruce Sacks both attended the event and said it was a great time, at a great location.
“My fiancé and I would definitely attend any future occasions,” Sacks said.
The “Meet & Mingle” offered an opportunity for alumni to network with other alumni and to meet the WVJC Career Management Director, Holly Hildreth.
“I had the opportunity to speak to some of my graduates about their current work situations and whether or not they’re looking for new positions,” Hildreth said. “I have no way of knowing that a graduate isn’t happy in his or her position unless he or she tells me.”
Hildreth added that the school is planning to host another event in December, and she hopes the event will continue to grow.
“We want to see as many faces as possible,” Hildreth said. “Our relationship with our graduates does not end when they walk out of our door.”
Graduates who attended the event were encouraged to fill out paperwork for the WVJC Alumni Association. For more information about the WVJC Alumni Association, or to find about about future events, please visit the Facebook page, here.
