Medical coding and billing professionals manage the transformation of healthcare diagnoses, procedures, medical services, and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes. In addition, to meet the increasing medical needs of aging Baby Boomers, insurance companies continually update their claim processing procedures, creating more opportunities for medical coding professionals.

Medical coders play a vital role in the connection between healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies. They contribute by reading patient charts to determine medical history, including previous diagnoses and treatments.

Coding Certification

At WVJC Online, we know your goal is quickly getting into your dream career. We’ve designed our online medical coding degree program to meet your career goals and the needs of employers. Professional certifications are a great way to improve your marketability to employers.

Our Online Medical Coding program prepares you to be career-ready in less than two years, and it’s also designed to prepare you for a certification exam that can strengthen your appeal in the job market. Upon graduation, as a benefit of the program, the Institution will pay for the cost of two attempts to sit for an American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) certification.

  • Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice*

Upon passing the certification, you would then have earned the CPC-A credential. The “-A” remains attached to it until you fulfill further experience requirements, which you can learn more about through the AAPC website. The apprenticeship status is essential due to the level of expertise coders are expected to have. Upon submitting your proof of completion, they will revise your credentials to Certified Professional Coder.

Medical Coders are an essential part of the healthcare team. They review documentation provided by healthcare providers and translate it into a universally recognized coding system. To learn more about the program, call 877-25ONLINE today or Request Information.

*Certification is contingent on passing the corresponding certification exam. Required/ Included in Tuition/Fees. The Institution’s most recent pass rate (2022-23 academic year) on the Certified Professional Coders exam is 30%. See catalog for details.
