Wilson Martino Dental held an online competition for anyone to produce their next 30 or 60 second television commercial. Once submitted, videos were posted on the Wilson Martino Facebook Page where individuals were encouraged to vote for their favorite video. The winner received $1,000 and the runner-up received $400 for their school, student organization, club or child care center.
The competition ended up being between two entries: One from the Dental Assisting Club at West Virginia Junior College Bridgeport Campus and one from the OIC Training Academy in Fairmont.
West Virginia Junior College’s Dental Assisting Club won!
The commercial submitted by the Dental Assisting Club featured the state of the art dental lab at the WVJC Bridgeport Campus and the front lobby.
Seven students from the Dental Assisting Club were featured in the video competition along with videotaping by Dental Coordinator, Vanessa Partain and video editing by IT at WVJC Bridgeport, Aaron Jones.
The WVJC Dental Assisting Specialized Associate Degree teaches students important skills for a career as a dental assistant including: Exposing and developing radiographs, assisting a dentist during procedures, sterilizing dental instruments and equipment, scheduling procedures, managing patient records, educating patients on postoperative and oral healthcare, developing leadership skills needed to manage a dental office, taking dental impressions, laboratory duties, mixing cements and preparing teeth and identifying oral pathology.
Dental Assistants from WVJC work in a variety of dental fields including general dentistry offices, orthodontists, oral surgeons, periodontists, endodontists and pediatric dentists.
