Our History

West Virginia Junior College was established in 1892 in Charleston, West Virginia. WVJC expanded its program offerings, student services, and employer services to Monongalia in 1922 and Harrison counties in 2002, establishing campuses in Morgantown, WV and Bridgeport, WV.

WVJC has continued to remain on the cutting edge of education to ensure that students have academic options that meet the demands of an ever-changing, technologically driven employment market. During these past several years, in addition to our other in demand programs, WVJC has developed Nursing and Information Technology programs to help students take advantage of these growing fields.

In 2011, WVJC developed an online education delivery platform, known as WVJC Online, for several of its programs. The purpose of this online school was to support students who need to balance school with work and family. WVJC Online strives to maintain the same level of service students experience at the residential campus. The WVJC Online formula for student success and positive career outcomes has spread to the neighboring states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, and Kentucky, turning WVJC Online into a regional online college that students can trust.

“I’m so glad that I chose to go to WVJC. All of the people there are very helpful. The teachers will help you in anyway. I’m almost 40 years old so it has been out of school for some time. No one there treats me like the older person. So if you want to go to a great college I highly recommend you to go to WVJC.” – Amanda McCleary, WVJC Student
