Q&A with Kacey Eagle, Our Medical Coding Program Director

Here at WVJC Online, we’re proud of our online medical coding program. This is because students who complete its courses are giving themselves the opportunity to make their mark on the healthcare industry in Pennsylvania. With course material ranging from medical terminology to health information management, students who utilize our program can count on a well-rounded virtual education.

This plethora of resources we’re able to offer our students would not be possible without help from our hardworking staff. One staff member in particular who has made a positive impact on our PA medical coding program is Kacey Eagle.

Following years of experience in the medical field, she brought her expertise to WVJC Online as our Program Director. In this interview, we chatted with Eagle about her background, love for healthcare, and thoughts on online education:

  1. Tell us a bit about your background and how that led to you becoming a Program Director for WVJC PA Online:

I graduated from West Virginia Northern in 2002 with my Associate in Nursing, then received my Bachelor’s and then Master’s Degree in 2014 from University of Phoenix in Healthcare Administration, and am currently a third-year doctoral student in Health Administration at University of Phoenix. I have numerous certifications in the healthcare industry including:

    • Medical Administrative Assistant
    • Medical Transcription
    • Medical Billing and Coding
    • Personal Trainer and Nutritional Specialist
    • US DOT Drug Screening Certification

I started working for West Virginia Junior College in April of 2015 as an adjunct instructor and within five weeks I was asked to become the Medical Office Administration Program Director.

  1. What is the most rewarding aspect of working with students who want to become healthcare professionals?

I absolutely love being able to give back my experiences, knowledge, and passion for healthcare to my students. When I get to meet my online students for the first time as they take their certification exam or when I get to hand them their diploma at graduation is the most amazing and rewarding feeling I have ever experienced.

I have done some pretty amazing things over the past almost 20 years that I have been in the health care industry, but none of them surpass the feeling I get being able to teach others something I am so passionate about.

  1. What do you believe are some factors that continue to draw students toward online schools compared to conventional classroom settings?

Online courses give students the opportunity to plan their study time around the rest of their day, instead of the other way around. Students can take online courses and even complete entire degrees while working, while in-between jobs, or while taking time to raise a family.

The skills students learn when participating in their online courses translates to many professions, including creating/sharing documents, incorporating audio/video materials into assignments, completing online training sessions, etc.

Online classes can offer a more comfortable learning environment as well as offering a variety of programs, courses, and degree options.
