Medical Assisting: Blood Pressure Demonstration

How to Perform A Manual Blood Pressure

Ms. Leann Cummings, Traditional Medical Programs Director, and two clinical medical assisting students will demonstrate how to perform a manual blood pressure on a patient. The student greets the patient and asks them to provide their name and date of birth. The patient provides their name and date of birth. Next, the student asks what arm they prefer to use. The patient responds, “Either arm is fine.” The student also informs the patient that she may experience a little pressure. She applies the cuff to the patient’s arm and listens for Korotkoff sounds. The student continues to listen to Korotkoff sounds and provides the patient with their reading.
