Meet our new Career Management Director

Meet Lakelyn Denny, the new Career Management Director at WVJC Morgantown!

Lakelyn Denny e1645041327549 | WVJC

Lakelyn graduated from California University of Pennsylvania in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Special Education with a minor in business. She continued her education and graduated from California University of Pennsylvania again in 2018 with a Master of Education degree as a Reading Specialist. She was a graduate assistant for the Early Childhood Education Department during her graduate program. She worked closely with the faculty to advise undergraduate students, provide presentations at educational conferences, and teach undergraduate-level courses.

After graduating, Lakelyn became the Preschool Lead Teacher for the Rutledge Institute for Early Childhood Education, where she helped develop and operate the institute’s first classrooms. In 2018, she became a Special Education Teacher for New Directions Partial Hospitalization Program. Lakelyn became the Lead Teacher of the organization, where she assisted in the supervision of the teaching staff at the program and developed organizational structures for the academic team.

In her spare time, Lakelyn enjoys going on adventures with her husband and rescue dogs, spending time with family and friends, studying martial arts, singing, dancing, and trying new things! “I am always up for an adventure! Traveling, skydiving, karaoke, parasailing, skiing, the list goes on and on. My philosophy has always been that I will try anything once. You would be amazed at the opportunities that arise when you put yourself out there to try new things,” she says.

While she may be new to the career management team, Lakelyn is very excited to begin helping students start their careers. “I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with the students and graduates of WVJC! My goal is to help all of our students find a career that they love and can be proud of. Together, we will job search, prepare for interviews, and celebrate when the job offers arrive. I can’t wait to be part of your professional journey!”

Lakelyn will also be teaching a Career Preparation course that prepares students to create documents needed to obtain employment, such as cover letters, resumes, thank you letters, and references. In this course, students also complete a mock interview to assist them in proper interview techniques. “This course is perfectly designed for students that are entering the workforce. After the completion of this course, you will have all of the documentation you need to make a great impression on future employers.”
