WVJC Morgantown is proud to offer an Information Technology program that highlights the importance of networking and security for today’s businesses, organizations, and government agencies. “Our program provides students with opportunities to develop their skills in network infrastructure, server administration and management, security, and configuring firewalls, routers, switches, and access points,” said Robin Addis, Information Technology and Cybersecurity Program Director.
During this program, students also prepare for the CompTIA A+*, Cisco Certified Technician (CCT)*, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)+, and CompTIA Security** professional certification exams. These certifications set our students apart from other applicants when they apply for careers in their field! “Our field is constantly evolving, and as an IT professional, you are always learning new skills or updating your knowledge. It is a very satisfying career path, especially when you use your knowledge to problem solve and tackle new projects,” said Robin.
Near the end of their classroom and interactive lab experiences, WVJC students are required to complete an externship in their field of study! They receive on-the-job training to test the knowledge and skills they developed in their coursework while also learning valuable lessons in customer service and customer satisfaction.
In just 18 months, this program prepares our graduates to be career-ready!
“Our graduates are logical and analytical leaders. They work outside of their comfort zone and adapt to the changes in our field. They are patient and work well with others in their workplace. Those are the characteristics that allow them to be successful in the informational technology field,” said Robin. With an Information Technology Degree from WVJC, graduates are prepared to begin their careers as desk support technicians, network administration professionals, technical support professionals, and so much more.
