Health Access Inc. – Externship Highlight

At West Virginia Junior College, creating a lasting relationship with our externship sites is essential to provide our students with a quality hands-on experience. At Health Access Inc., located in Clarksburg, WV, our Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) students receive that and more.

According to their website, Health Access was founded in 1992 to provide medical services to the underprivileged population.

“Health Access, like many other free and charitable clinics, began as a community-initiated response to the visible plight of the uninsured who lacked access to basic healthcare.”

Over 26 years later, they are still responding to the needs of their community.

The clinic provides various services to their patients, including primary care services, women’s health screenings, hospital services, access to prescription medications, vision screenings and glasses, dental care, and more, thanks to their many long-standing partnerships with other local medical companies.

Having WVJC students complete their externships with Health Access Inc. not only provides them with an opportunity to get hands-on, but it also gives them an insight into a whole other world in the medical field.

Practice Manager Joshua Brown works closely with WVJC’s Externship Coordinator, Carrie Friend, when it comes to placing students to make sure that each of their students receives the best educational experiences possible. They are learning clinical skills, but they are also learning front office procedures.

Health Access Inc. is currently in the process of expanding its digital access to comprehensive medical care for the uninsured and under-insured patrons of Harrison and Doddridge counties. We are excited to grow alongside an important company that prides itself on giving back to its community.
