Do I Need To Have Prior Knowledge in Cybersecurity to Enroll in WVJC Online’s Cybersecurity Program?

Did you know that you can pursue the career of your dreams without any prerequisite training at a pace that fits your specific needs? At WVJC Online, we are committed to helping students cross the divide between career desire and its fulfillment. Read on to discover how a degree in Cybersecurity might be for you!

WHAT IS CYBERSECURITY?

Professionally referred to as “information technology security,” IBM defines cybersecurity as the practice of protecting critical systems and sensitive information from digital attacks. Cybersecurity measures are designed to combat threats against networked systems and applications, whether those threats originate from inside or outside an organization. Simply put, cybersecurity technicians ensure the regular optimization of all electronic systems and data from foreign threats.

HOW LONG IS THE CYBERSECURITY PROGRAM AT WVJC ONLINE?

Students enrolling in WVJC Online’s Cybersecurity program should have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution. Because you will be earning an associate degree, we require a minimum of 18 months (or 90 credits) to satisfy the program’s credit requirements. This includes field experience through an externship opportunity towards the end of the program.

Our goal at WVJC is for students to develop marketable skills that are career-focused and time-efficient without compromising precious classroom time learning subject matter unrelated to their professional desires. As a result, our Cybersecurity program is designed for students to graduate and enter the workforce.

DO I NEED ANY PRIOR TRAINING OR KNOWLEDGE?

“Where do I start?” is a common sentiment among incoming students. Whether for the first time or changing careers, the prospect of obtaining a degree can sometimes appear nearly impossible. However, at WVJC Online, incoming students are not expected to be amassed any specialized training before enrollment. You don’t need any prior knowledge of cybersecurity before starting class on the first day! We accept students at every level of knowledge and further hone their skills for the cybersecurity job front.

As the need for computerized security against increasing cyber threats and criminality heightens throughout the modern world, there is an ever-increasing need for cybersecurity employees. That’s where we come in! WVJC Online will take the time to help you gain the essential skills and training necessary to pursue a fruitful career in cybersecurity and other similar professions.
