Discover the proper technique to conduct a fundal height measurement

West Virginia Junior College’s Clinical Coordinator for Nursing, Amanda Poling, and nursing student McKenzie Brown demonstrates how to asses fundal height during pregnancy.

Fundal height measures the size of the uterus used to assess fetal growth. In this video, Mckenzie will start by washing her hands and then protecting the patient’s privacy. Mckenzie then identifies the patient to assure patient identification. It is then explained to the patient the process that will be performed.

Once the belly is exposed, Mckenzie measures from the symphysis pubis to the fundus. This measurement was 28cm, which means the patient is 28 weeks pregnant. This demonstration will inform you on what to expect when receiving the fundal height during pregnancy.
