Debra Boyd – Staff Highlight

Meet one of our new admissions team members, Debra Boyd!

Debra Boyd e1657911936431 | WVJC

Our staff highlight of the month is one of the newest admissions team members, Debra Boyd. She received her Associate Degree in Legal Office Assisting from West Virginia Junior College in 2018. She was motivated to obtain her degree from WVJC after watching her daughter complete the Medical Office Administration program.

Debra has worked for a government contractor, T3 Corporation, as a data entry/analyst for (GSA) government sales. Before this, she worked two jobs in education while living at Ft. Wainwright in Alaska. Debra also worked as a support staff level II for the National Education Alliance-Alaska Regional and as a kindergarten assistant at Arctic Light Elementary. In 2002, she was one of three managers that helped open Books-A-Million #639 in Morgantown, WV.

Debra currently works in admissions for WVJC. This role’s duties are helping new students by offering a personalized enrollment experience. This is accomplished through creating and maintaining meaningful relationships with our incoming students, so they know they are welcomed and not alone on their college journey.

Debra’s goal was to work within a school system. She loves working at WVJC because of the day-to-day interaction with students and the friendly work environment with a wonderful group of co-workers. She also really enjoys her admissions job, helping students along their new journeys. Working in her previous education jobs were some of her happiest times in a work environment. She hopes to build that and continue the experience in admissions at WVJC.

“I had a great experience while being a student in the legal program at WVJC with every staff member that I encountered along my journey. I wanted to be a part of that experience for other students looking at WVJC,” Debra says. Debra’s history with WVJC helps motivate her to do the best job she can for future students.

Debra is motivated by her family. She has always pulled strength from her husband and children. She is proud to be an Army veteran’s wife and has four accomplished children. She feels they make her the best version of herself and hopes to bring that to WVJC.
