Meet Nursing Program Director
Chelsea Gianni!
Chelsea Gianni started her career as a nurse in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. After obtaining her Master’s degree, she spent eight years as a family nurse practitioner at a primary care office in Morgantown, WV. During that time, she managed chronic diseases and acute conditions for patients of all ages. Her experience as a Nurse Practitioner led her to become the lead NP. In that leadership role, Chelsea could advocate for the group of NPs and PAs she manages and the patients they care for. Throughout her ten years of experience, she has had numerous roles as an educator and is thrilled to be a part of the West Virginia Junior College family.
Chelsea began the role of Nursing Program Director at the beginning of 2023 and is looking forward to the challenges and successes of the program. When asked why she chose WVJC, Chelsea said, “I love the connection and relationships the staff have with the students and the many opportunities for growth – both for students and staff. I wanted to make an impact on the healthcare community in West Virginia, and I knew I could make that happen here at WVJC.”
“I love the tight-knit community and the relationships I’ve been able to build with students thus far. I have a great team of people I work with every day – and that continues to grow! Every single one of my team members cares about the students and their success as future nurses and leaders.” Chelsea’s favorite reason for working at WVJC closely echoes her original reason for joining the WVJC team.
Chelsea is always inspired by watching other women go against the status quo by being in leadership positions and setting examples for others. Chelsea said, “I love the idea of setting a positive example for other women who want to make big impacts, whether that’s in a hospital, business, or at home with their family. My two boys, husband, family, and my closest friends are major motivators and always push me to be the best version of myself.”
Her long-term goal is to expand the Nursing program at West Virginia Junior College so we positively impact the healthcare system beyond the state of West Virginia.
Chelsea’s secret passion is advocating for women and children. “I’ve always loved advocating for women and children. I really developed this comfortability with pediatrics after my time in the pediatric intensive care unit, and I established many relationships with patients and families in the community. My own personal experience with postpartum issues motivated me to advocate for and help new mothers through my role as a nurse practitioner. I hope to find ways to partner up with local healthcare providers and organizations to provide support for children and postpartum women.”
