While human resources and employment law is emphasized, the general education and business courses prepare graduates to work in a wide variety of office settings. Opportunities may exist in business and industry, federal, state, local government, non-profit agencies, and other organizational settings. Some career paths may require additional training and/or experience. The completion of this program could also be used as an opportunity to maintain existing employment or advance in a career.wvjc career fair e1526498379737 | WVJC

While students will take a variety of courses, the program’s core group of classes centers around preparing students to sit for the aPHR certification offered through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).  At the end of the program, students will have an opportunity to sit for the certification.  In addition, students will take courses in business law, employment law, and three in-depth courses in human resources, which cover topics from recruitment and selection to discipline and termination. They will also complete a 90-hour externship with a focus on human resources. This degree path is perfect for anyone who desires the HR field or for anyone currently in the HR field seeking to get certified.
