Meet our New Career Management Director
The staff and faculty at WVJC are so excited to welcome Amber Walker to the team!
Amber received her Bachelor’s Degree from Fairmont State University in Speech Communications with a minor in Journalism. She went on to get her Master’s in Business Administration from Salem. Along with that, she has a license to teach adult Basic Education.
Amber has worked in both the non-profit and profit realms, giving her an array of experience in different environments. Most of these positions were human resources style positions. She has also worked in higher education and has experience as a counselor for various populations involving Social Work.
Amber is thrilled to rejoin the world of higher education. She is excited to be a part of the WVJC family that believes in the power of education. She began her new role as Career Management Director on March 20th. In this role, she works closely with students and graduates to ensure they find employment within their field of study. In addition, she will work closely with Program Directors to provide one-on-one attention to struggling students to ensure their success and provide them with all the assistance available. Career Management Directors also plan and coordinate events such as Nursing Pinning and Graduation Ceremonies. These are only a few of the responsibilities of the position, and Amber is looking forward to the opportunity of working so closely with our students to make sure they get the education and start their careers.
When looking for motivation, Amber focuses on enjoying each moment that life gives her to learn something new every day. She is very proud of her 15-year-old son and looks forward to the great things he will accomplish. Amber is passionate about public speaking and even started a business called Activating Your Gifts that focuses on professional speaking. Her long-term goals are to be happy and healthy and to be able to learn and grow within the Career Management Department.
