WVJC Morgantown to Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days! Join Us!

MORGANTOWN, WV -Walk 100 Miles in 100 days with the West Virginia Junior College, Morgantown Campus, faculty, staff and students.

Jessica Nuckles, the WVJC’s High School Admissions Representative, heard about the program during a visit to Preston High School.

“Many of our students are from Preston County, so this is a great way for us to be involved in our students’ hometown communities,” Nuckles said. “This is also a great opportunity to encourage the WVJC Morgantown faculty, staff and students to get moving.”

The WVJC Morgantown walkers will be part of the Preston High Knights’ team but will be competing with each other in a competition between academic programs.

The 100 days will kick off April 15 and end July 23. A prize will be awarded to the program that logs the most miles.
Participants may stop by the main office to pick up a “Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days” sign-up sheet. Ordering a T-shirt for $5.50 is optional.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends that adults do a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activities each week.

“This is a great activity that not only encourages our students to get moving but also gives them something that they can do with their families,” Nuckles said.

The rules are as follows:
• No more than 12 miles per week
• If recording other forms of cardiovascular exercise, 20 minutes equals one mile.
• Strength training and weight lifting does not count.

The activity may be completed anywhere at any time during the 100-day time period. Individual mileage forms may be picked-up from Nuckles.

The walk will kick-off with a Campus-wide walk, weather permitting, April 15 at 2 p.m. The walk will begin outside the WVJC Morgantown main entrance.
