After high school, Brian O’Dell began to pursue an Exercise Physiology program at West Virginia University. However, after a few months passed, Brian started to feel that it wasn’t a good fit for him. At the time, Brian was working as a service technician apprentice and he began to feel overwhelmed by his work and full-time class schedule. He needed a school that would help him balance it all. A few years after leaving WVU, Brian began looking into WVJC to continue his education.
“After my previous experience at a large university, I decided I wanted to take a shot at a smaller college, and I discovered the IT program here at WVJC. Upon meeting with Robin, the Program Director, and learning what all this program offered, I decided the opportunity was too good to pass up.”
Pursuing a degree in the IT field was important to Brian, and he was looking for a college that could also provide meaningful relationships with instructors. “I’ve always been around computers and was fascinated with how they operated, so when I stumbled upon this program I knew that it was something I needed to look into. Once I took my tour and met Robin and a few of her students, I knew giving this program a shot was the right thing for me to do.”
Brian has experienced firsthand the benefit of one-on-one attention from instructors. “Attending WVJC has boosted my confidence to where I don’t doubt my capabilities anymore.” He says his program director, Robin, has affected his life the most. “She has made a very positive impact on my school career and is one of the main reasons I now believe in my capabilities.”
As Brian nears graduation from the WVJC IT program, he definitely has a clear vision for the future, looking to utilize his degree in a successful Network Administration or Web Design position.
