Medical Assisting Student Highlight – Bree Boggs

Bridgeport Medical Assisting

If you are looking to be a part of a healthcare team and enjoy interacting with patients directly, becoming a Medical Assistant may be the right fit for you.  A Medical Assistant is an allied health professional that supports the work of physicians and other health professionals. Medical Assistants have a complex working knowledge of vital signs, urinalysis, phlebotomy, and injections, and can also complete administrative tasks.

The Clinical Medical Assistant program at WVJC will help prepare you for a successful career as a Medical Assistant through hands on lab classes and an externship. This externship experience will not only provide you with hands on experience in patient care, but will also help guide you toward the type of medical facility you would like to be a part of.

For Bree Boggs, a current WVJC-Bridgeport student, medical assisting was the right choice. Bree is set to graduate in March 2018 with an associate degree from the Medical Assistant program. She is eager to join the work force and start her career in a field that she is so passionate about. Before attending WVJC, Bree worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for a couple years. Once she realized that wasn’t the right fit for her, she began working in retail. After some consideration and knowing that the medical field was something she was passionate about, she looked into WVJC. Bree wanted to further her education, but needed a school that worked with her schedule so she could be home with her children in the evening. That school was WVJC!

Bree’s favorite part about WVJC are the “teachers and the hands-on learning.”  Mr. Cutright was one of her favorite teachers because “he always made his classes very interesting and easy to understand.”

Bree recently completed her externship with United Vein and Vascular Center in Bridgeport. She has also secured a permanent position as a medical assistant. She is excited to begin this new journey and put all of her hard work and skills into action.  Bree’s lifelong dream is to have a steady career and continue to watch her children grow up.
