Medical Assisting Student Highlight – Ashley Fought

BRIDGEPORT, WV – Medical Assisting student Ashley Fought decided to attend West Virginia Junior College to further her career.

“After attending college before but not completing my degree, I felt down and disappointed in myself,” she said. “After meeting and talking with the staff at WVJC and planning with my family, I felt confident to give college another chance.”

Ashley has been working as a sales associate at a local department store, which she plans to continue doing until she graduates. While she likes her job, it’s not what she wants as her career.

“Once I graduate, I would like to pursue my career and work in a hospital or a doctor’s office,” she said. ”I want to be able to prove that I did something with my life and made something of myself.”

Working while attending school can be difficult, but Ashley said the faculty and staff have helped her through challenging times.

”There have been numerous times when I felt overwhelmed with work, school, and family,” she said “That’s what your friends and instructors are for. They are there to assist you in any way they possibly can. I wouldn’t have made it this far without having great friends and understanding instructors.”

Some friends who really supported Ashley’s decision to continue her education were Cari Riffle and Rebekah Teter.

Whether it’s missing class because of being sick, getting down over failing a quiz or having family problems, Ashley said students can get help to get through challenges by talking with their instructors.

“All of my instructors so far have been very helpful,” Ashley said. “One of these great instructors my fellow classmates and I really miss is Mrs. Carmeleta Randolph.”
