West Virginia Junior College Charleston welcomes Beth Orcutt-Davis to the team! Student success is the top priority at West Virginia Junior College. In order to optimize students’ success, it takes a well-oiled and collaborative team, and that is what Ms. Davis brings to the campus.
The Student Services Director is instrumental in every facet of the educational process, from enrollment to graduation. Besides her diverse educational and employment background, which is extremely beneficial to WVJC students, Ms. Davis brings excitement and energy to the campus.
“We are a close-knit team. The faculty and staff work together for the success of every student…that is conducive to student success leading to overall campus success,” said Davis.
As “all things student services,” Ms. Davis assists students dealing with academic issues (grades, study plans, tutoring, attendance, etc.), personal situations and general life predicaments. The college staff and faculty understand life happens and are available to assist students to the best of their ability. Ms. Davis gets to know and understand every student individually and helps coordinate study sessions, time management plans, the best options for each student’s unique situation, and provides community resources when needed. While she means business and holds students to high expectations, walking into her office you can expect to be welcomed, and then leave with a game plan and stress eased.
“I expect students to excel in professionalism from the time they enter our campus on the first day of classes and carry themselves as a professional on through their careers. Marketing yourself and your career to others is essential in the professional setting,” stated Davis.
Ms. Davis is a South Charleston, WV native and has many contacts in the area, especially in the dental and medical fields. She joins the team with over 13 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Having staff who are familiar with the area and who have contacts in the employment arenas of Business, Dental, Information Technology, Legal and Medical is very beneficial for WVJC students. Since joining the WVJC family in August, she has reached out to her contacts to provide fresh opportunities for students both in the externship process and students needing community resources.
Ms. Davis resides in South Charleston with her husband, JR, and two sons, Dominic and Isaiah. In her spare time Beth stays involved with her boys. She is an avid Black Eagle fan and you can catch Ms. Davis on the sidelines of all South Charleston varsity soccer games cheering on Isaiah. She is a member of National Association of Professional Woman, South Charleston Athletic Boosters and past Vice President of South Charleston Little League Baseball. Beth’s voice is also well known to the community singing at local events, charities, weddings, and most importantly church giving it all to the One who has blessed her.
Ms. Davis says her main goal is simple, “I want to see our students achieve their own personal success. The realization of education is…it’s a true opportunity and it’s there for the taking. I want students to take full advantage of their education and the opportunities it opens for them and their families.”
