Student Highlight – Sydney Shaver

Sydney ShaverSydney Shaver always has had a sincere interest in the medical field. Initially pursuing pre-med at Alderson Broaddus, Sydney began experiencing some health complications related to a car accident years prior. After taking some time to get better and get back on track, Sydney resurfaced – more determined than ever to obtain her college degree and pursue a career in the medical field.

Continuing towards a medical program was crucial for Sydney, but she also needed the flexibility of an online campus. “WVJC was the best option for me. They offered online classes and helped me through the progress of everything. Even though it’s online, the communication between my professors and me is great!”

The online Clinical Medical Assistant program was appealing to Sydney because of the stability of the medical field, coupled with her enduring passion for working with the public. However, the WVJC online campus was one of her favorite aspects. “My favorite part of attending WVJC is how convenient it is for me to get a degree. WVJC has helped me through my schooling days. I am happy I went with this school. WVJC helped me to envision my future, when I didn’t think I was going to get to.”

Throughout her studies as a Clinical Medical Assistant student, Sydney has especially enjoyed the mentoring provided by her clinical instructor, Carrie. “She gives us so many tools to help us remember stuff by. Carrie also makes clinicals fun by letting us try to win prizes in different ways.”

Looking ahead to the future, Sydney knows exactly what she wants: a career as a Clinical Medical Assistant. “I can’t wait to graduate and start my career. WVJC has always been there to support me, and to help me find a job. It is a blessing. Most schools are not like this one.”
