Medical Assisting Graduate Highlight-Elisabeth Lilly

Charleston Clinical Medical AssistantI’ll never forget receiving that phone call from Elisabeth Lilly. She was breathless with excitement and you could hear her smile right through the phone. “I just had to call and tell you that……I got the job! They want me to start Monday!”

Elisabeth Lilly recently graduated with honors from our Charleston campus. She was able to maintain a 4.0 GPA while completing a double major — which means she now holds a degree in both Medical Assisting and Medical Office Administration! Elisabeth was introduced to her current employer at a function her teacher, Selena Ramey, put together for one of her classes. Mrs. Ramey invited Medical professionals from around the Charleston area to come host interviews with her students who would soon be graduating. Among those who attended was a representative from Charleston Family Practice. This representative was so impressed after speaking with Elisabeth, she called her back that same evening and asked her to come into the office for a second interview!

When I asked Elisabeth how it felt being hired on so quickly she replied with a grin. “It feels amazing! I am living proof that a person can come back from anything, any situation, and make their dreams come true!” Elisabeth was put off on disability when she was only 21 years old. She was struggling with multiple health issues and was in and out of the hospital for several years. She was beginning to wonder if she would ever be able to do any of the things she wanted to do with her life. All of that changed for her in an instant.

Elisabeth was attending a prayer meeting at her church when she says God touched her body and healed her. She woke up the next morning feeling better than she had in years! It was then that she decided she was not going to take this miracle for granted. She wanted to make a drastic change in her life, and she knew her first step was going back to school!

After visiting the West Virginia Junior College webpage, Elisabeth requested more information on our Medical Office Administration program. She says it seemed almost instantly that she received a call from our Adult Admissions Representative, Kellie Moore, inviting her into the school for an interview and a personal tour. After learning more about our programs and completing the campus tour, Elisabeth was certain this was the right place for her. She says, “Everyone was so nice to me and the atmosphere was warm and inviting.”

That one interview was all it took to start Elisabeth down a path which would forever change her life for the better. She never imagined it would be possible to attain one degree, yet alone two! Elisabeth said if there was any advice she could leave to others it would be this, “Believe in yourself. Don’t give up. Don’t try to hold everything in either. A lot of students do not use the resources, and I mean the people, that they have available to them. There are people here to talk to who care about you. The staff at WVJC really care about their students. They care about you from the moment they meet you until…..Forever! They are there for you every step of the way.”

Are you ready to make a change in your life? Have you been thinking about coming back to college, or possibly enrolling for the first time?
