The college welcomed a new Director of Admissions to the WVJC family in early December 2014, Karen Wilkinson. Aside from her director duties, Karen also serves as the Adult Admissions Representative at the Charleston campus.
“We have a great team and are changing lives by helping individuals make career decisions…and having fun along the way,” stated Wilkinson.
Wilkinson attributes the goals being accomplished in 2015 to her dynamic team, High School Representative Selena Ramey and Presenter, Claire Lauderman.
Entering a new year brings about new goals and new initiatives for the Charleston trio. Lauderman, is excited about new opportunities she and her coworkers are bringing to students in the Charleston and surrounding area.
“Coming in February we have a Bus Tour with Nitro High School. This will be the first time Nitro has visited our campus and we are very excited to meet these students and learn about their career goals,” said Lauderman.
The team is also making new contacts and reaching out into other areas to assist individuals with their future career plans. High schools in the area are talking with Admissions to better serve the needs of their students, post-graduation. Reaching out to technical schools is also a new initiative the team is working on to better serve the individuals looking to further their education in a specialized field.
Karen even invites past WVJC graduates and current students to share their experiences with family and friends. She believes if others in the community see what pursuing a degree at WVJC can mean for their friends or family members lives, they too might decide to work towards a degree.
“We are all friends and family here, if students and graduates strive to be examples and show the difference an education makes we can expand our WVJC circle of friends and family. We want to help others obtain their goals,” stated Wilkinson.
Selena looks forward to achieving all their goals this year and is confident in their abilities.
“We have the chemistry to work together to show prospective students and their families that an education and certifications really do lead to a great career. We look forward to meeting and working with those who are serious about starting their educational journey,” said Ramey.
