On Thursday May 28, 2015, Mrs. Toni Mills, her daughter, and her granddaughter awarded a very special scholarship to a student at WVJC. The Matt Mills Memorial Scholarship was established by the Mills family to assist a current Information Technology student with the cost of IT certification testing. Matt Mills graduated from WVJC’s IT program in 2010. He was an excellent young man who was well liked by classmates and instructors. He was also a very hard worker. On his first try, Matt passed his certification exam with an A+. After his graduation from WVJC, Matt was employed with RESA VII as a Computer Repair Technician. However, shortly after he started his job, he was diagnosed with germ-cell cancer. His life was cut short by the disease just six months after his diagnosis.
The recipient of the 2015 award is Ryan Wilson. Ryan is an excellent student who has overcome illness of his own and is now a successful student here at WVJC. Ryan resides in Bridgeport and works as a fitness trainer while attending school.
