CHARLESTON, WV – Career Management Director Kayla Donathan’s favorite part of her job is having students run excitedly into her office informing her of the new job they just landed.
“It’s really exciting, and the feeling never gets old. I have worked with these students on their resumes, interview skills and professional image,” Kayla said. “Seeing them become successful in finding a job within their field of study is the greatest feeling. You’re just as excited as they are because you’ve been on this long job-search journey with them.”
Kayla began working at West Virginia Junior College Charleston in September 2012 after working for the local newspaper for two years. She was hired as Career Management Director to help students get placed in their externships and find a job within their field of study. Kayla also serves as the WVJC Charleston Social Media liaison, constantly updating Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with new information.
“I have always been interested in education, but have a degree in marketing,” Kayla said. “I was a bit nervous starting this position, but I can see that I’ve absolutely made the right choice. We have to teach our students to market themselves correctly to land their dream job. I get to combine the best of both worlds.”
In her spare time, Kayla loves attending country music concerts, with her favorite being Brad Paisley (she’s been to seven concerts!). She also loves cheering on West Virginia University both at home and away. Last October, she traveled to Austin, Texas to watch WVU take on the Texas Longhorns. She also enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
